John V lives in Victoria, Australia. He was 56 when he was diagnosed in June, 2011. His initial PSA was 35.00 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 6, and he was staged T1c. His initial treatment choice was Surgery (Robotic Laparoscopic Prostatectomy) and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2016 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

Had a PSA test in 2006 3.5 - doctor ignored [This would have been regarded as a 'normal' PSA level.]

Had a PSA test in 2009 - 35.0

I did not know what it meant till my doctor sent me to an oncologist. He told me I had prostate cancer and only 35 % chance of beating it [It is not clear how the oncologist could have made this diagnosis without a biopsy, since the PSA level alone is not a good diagnostic tool as it is not prostate cancer specific - see PSA 101]

He refused to operate and offered radiation at Austin Hospital. I looked at alternatives and had the gland removed at a price, but you cannot put a price on life.

My PSA dropped to 0.28 , then climbed to 0.32 and I had radiation. To date no reading. Of course I check every three months.

UPDATED

April 2012

First note staging was T3a [This is likely the post operative clinical staging]

Still PSA at 0.05

Take atest every 4 months.

Previous was less than 0.05 , now reading just 0.05 not sure whether this means anything.

Doctors says know problem, but can they be believed.

Still take daily vitamins and try for as much antioxidants as possible.

UPDATED

August 2013

I have passed my year 4 check and still at 0.05 PSA;, which I am really happy with. The only edge is radiation which reduced my PSa really knocked me around a bit, with a lack of energy and low white blood cell count which appears to go up and down. Anyway keep working on this and remain positive.

UPDATED

September 2014

Well year five and still 0.05 or less though in the last two tests there had been a slight flutuation though still below 0.05. I do not have the energy I once has , but blame this on the radiation. Also radiation killed off any nerves that were left so it's a struggle to overcome the sex part of my life. Otherwise remian positive that will beat anything that comes along.

Cheers
