Carey Murell lives in North Carolina, USA. He was 55 when he was diagnosed in August, 2007. His initial PSA was 4.60 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 6, and he was staged T1c. His initial treatment choice was Surgery (Robotic Laparoscopic Prostatectomy) and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2012 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

Just found this site, God bless you all for this.

Went to my doctor in July for a minor infection. As always he did a blood test for my PSA (cancer is a high risk in my family). That came back 4.6 ng/ml. Just six months before it was 3.2 ng/ml. The doctor then did a biopsy and GleasonScore came back 3+3.

Although, I have been trying to prepare myself for this for years, it hit me like a nuke. I have had six uncles, five cousins, my dad and sister die from cancer. My older brother just had his prostate removed. I knew I would one day have cancer. I don't believe anyone can prepare themself for this.

As for what I am going to do? At this point it is down to two options, HIFU or robotic surgery. Today I will be getting more information on both. If HIFU I will be going to Mexico. For robotic I am thinking about Texas - Austin.

I do not want to play around with this, family history has put the fear of God in me.

Later:

24 Sept made up my mind. No HIFU for me. On the 3 Oct will see my doctor and talk to him about Da Vinci. Hope to go to Austin, Dr. Fagin.

UPDATED

October 2007

Talked with the people in Austin Texas. I going to be CUT on 21 Nov. 2007. I sure hope Dr. Fagin is as good as I have been told.

The wife and I are going to drive from North Carolina to Texas and drive back. I plan on staying there for ten days after surgery, to make sure all is well.

UPDATED

August 2008

I had my surgery 23 Nov 2007 by Dr. Fagin. All is going well. Have leaking more than I would like. And Viagra is putting me at about 60%. Other than that no problems.

UPDATED

December 2009

OK it's been over 2 years now, all is doing well. I still have a very, very small problem with my water nothing major.

The sex life is doing, not bad I would say about 80% I think that is real good.

My PSA is >.001 looking great so far.

Thanks for all the information I got from this site.
