Ray Dudley lives in Victoria, Australia. He was 66 when he was diagnosed in June, 2012. His initial PSA was 10.80 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 7a, and he was staged T3b. His initial treatment choice was Surgery (Robotic Laparoscopic Prostatectomy) and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2016 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

The histology following my Robotic Radical Prostatectomy in Sep 2012, stated that there were clear margins but the Seminal Vesicles had been infiltrated and my prostate was quite large at around 134g. The Urologists stated it was around 5 times larger than normal.

My first post operative PSA blood test was done in December 2012 and the result was 0.128. I was advised that this meant cancer was still present and my PSA would probably continue to rise. Further PSA tests during 2013 showed slight increases and the last test in November was 0.168.

My Urologist sent me to see an radiation Oncologist. The Oncologist painted a very bleak picture and said that I have around a 20% chance of salvage radiation curing me but also a 25% chance of the radiation damaging my Bladder or/and Bowel. So I could end up with no cure and some damage. He also said I should consider radiation treatment when the PSA reaches 0.2 which could be in the next test planned for Feb 2014.

After my last PSA test I started to eat as healthily as possible. My diet consists of mainly Fruit, Vegetables and nuts. I have seen a Naturopath who has put me on some supplements and I am keeping everything crossed in the hope that I can drop my PSA and avoid radiation treatment.

I would like to hear from anyone who have have similar stories or can give me any help in making the right choices, especially those who have had radiation treatment. I have also read about taking Bi-Carb of soda with Molassis. Has anyone had success with this.

UPDATED

May 2015

As my PSA has almost reached 0.3, April 2015, I am planning to have Salvage Radiation treatment in the hope that it provides a cure.

My Radiation Oncologist has recommended having hormone treatment, Lucrin (known as Lupron the the USA) together with the salvage radiation. So the hormone treatment will start in the next couple of weeks and will last for six months. When I get to the four and a half month stage, around early October 2015, the radiation treatment will begin and last for around 6 - 7 weeks.

I am extremely worried about the side effects but there doesn't appear to be another option. Doing nothing means that the PCa will spread and my chance of cure will be gone.
