This is his Country or State Flag

Dominic E and Ana live in the Philippines. He was 44 when he was diagnosed in June, 2012. His initial PSA was 8.60 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 7a, and he was staged T1a. His initial treatment choice was External Beam Radiation+ADT (Intensity Modulated with ADT) and his current treatment choice is External Beam Radiation+ADT (Intensity Modulated with ADT). Here is his story.

THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2016 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

Way back in 2009, I reported my problem of frequent visit to bathroom to pee. Blood screening shows high PSA of 7+ ng/ml but due to my age 42 years old, doctor did not mind anything. In 2010, same problem of frequent visit to bathroom to pee especially every night and sometimes having painful ejaculation happens but I don't mind it.

One thing I really observed is that I always have an erection before going to bed until every time I woke up to pee. March 2011, my doctor recommended a urine flow check thinking I had a UTI and gave me 15 days Cipro which ease up my problem but not for long as problem continues. I checked with another doctor and did rectal check on my prostate after having 8.5 ng/m but prostate came up normal with 2oz (that's what I heard). Did also CT Scan to check if mass can be found but none. I am not satisfied, another uro doctor I went thru. I mentioned all my issues to the new doctor and was alarmed as I mentioned that my grandfather died of prostate cancer long ago. He recommended biopsy after having another rectal check. 12 cores biopsy 6 right negative, left 1 out of 6 found 50% of the core positive with Gleason 3+4=7.

Completed 30 days Bicalutamide with 2 injections 1 completed in the mid of Bica schedule and 2nd Lupron scheduled on mid of radiation therapy which will be on mid December 2012. Hoping for the best. MRI schedule on 21 of October (3 days from now). I am worried as I read a lot of stories here at Yana. I have a back-pain but this was originally due to my motocross failed hop. Already checked with disc problem but all is normal. Oncology said I have great chances of cure as cancer is localized (based on data of initial findings - I dont know which data is that). My erection problem (I always have hard-on) is now gone after the Bica and Lupron. I have very good flow and satisfied as always but still waking up every night frequently to empty. I drink too much water. I have diabetes taking Metformin 1500mg/day and Atorvastatin and something for lowering pressure. I lost weight 10 lbs probably due to reduce of food intake and I don't use sugar now. Coffee without sugar but tempted once to take fruit juice and chocolates sometimes which I think unavoidable. Life is difficult without sweets!

November 2012

October 21st, completed my CT Scan. IV quite painful but bearable. Probably attending Scan doctor did not knew I had diabetes. During scan I was given IV for contrast. I had difficulty in breathing and my heart beat increasing to a higher number. I said I need to call the nurse before I will pass out which I did but the doctors informed me the scan is done. I have 4 tattoos and a cast was molded to make sure I wont move. Simulation is done and everything got back to normal. What a relieved!

November 6, 2012. I have a full blood test which includes, Glucose, Cholesterol, PSA and etc. I will update you on the result hopefully after 3 days. God bless us all...And the fight continues...

UPDATED

November 2012

November 6th Lab results PSA 0.09ng/ml Glucose 143 (fasting) as I am diabetic. Vitamin D 17. The doctors said I have a good PSA result. Today (11/13/12), I started my first radiation therapy session and tomorrow is my second session and on so on for a total of 39 sessions except weekends. So far, the first session, I felt fatigue probably attributed to work load but for sure this has nothing to do with the first session. Work area is 10 minutes away from my medical provider. More prayers and more strength to fight this PC battle. I will update you all in next coming days. Cheers and more power to all out there fighting the same cause against this disease. God bless!

UPDATED

December 2012

November 13th, started my first radiation therapy session. 1st of the total 39 days which means that I will complete it by January 6th (no sessions on Thursdays and Fridays). 10 days more to go and I will complete my 39 days IMRT sessions. So far the only side effects I felt were hot flashes. This is probably due to the Lupron given. Difficulty of urinating on the 2nd week of the sessions until the 3rd week however with the help of Tamsulosin HCl originally Flomax as they called it, all my worries are gone. I am completing in a few more weeks time (10 sessions to be exact) and I am gaining momentum of relieve and my stress little by little disappearing. I can sense that by the way. I wish and hope my treatment will go as expected and with all the prayers and care from my family, I wish for a fast recovery and good health. Wishing all and everyone a good health and wealth. More blessings to all...

UPDATED

July 2013

January 6th, I completed IMRT. The most common feeling is that I easily get tired. There was a pain when I sit down for the next 3 months and from work I took my annual repatriation on May 2013 and took all the month until June 9th resting and enjoying the tropical summer. First PSA reading after my IMRT was on April 2013 and it was really good news I got 0.035 ng/ml. I got some difficulty urinating and at the same time I develop hemorrhoids I got constipation but were all addressed with meds and all of them helping me good. Next PSA will on July 15 and my next Onco appointment will be on July 20th. Everything is going fine as most of the side effects are gone and fading away. Keep praying for the best and hoping for the best. The problem of going to the bathroom during night time still keeps bothering me. I am taking Flomax for easy urinating and Vesicare to stop frequent going to the bathroom. This is for now and hopefully to be back to update after my July 15th PSA reading. God bless to all. You are not alone in this struggle and the fight continues. Keep believing in yourself and that hope is just always next to you!

UPDATED

August 2013

6 month now post IMRT with ADT and with the 2nd recent (every 3 months) PSA test shows that I nailed on 0.03 ng/ml which is a very good news for me (thanks God Almighty).

With the first 3 months post IMRT, many of the side effects surfaced like bleeding during poo-poo, pain in the anus, zero libido, unable to attain erection, easily get tired, I gain weight of 12 pounds. With all these side effects, the worst is still my constant going to the bathroom every night. Still this is the worst of my nightmare as I dont have enough sleep and have to work 8 hours.

It was in the 4th month post therapy that one night I was happy that I got my first erection. I was so happy that I regain back my sanity after thinking that was the end of my sex life. Getting use to it, with my first intercourse, I have a painful play in my rod and zero ejaculation. Well at least that was the kick start of the engine at first I am worried but after reading some of the other experiences with fellow PC users, it is pretty normal though at the beginning as the physiology is gaining back to the normal pace. Keep it up and keep the engine running, so I have to normally listen to my physical and mental condition as to when is the best condition to practice playing with it as exercise to regain most of what was lost if there is.

Seems to me that going further to my 7 months post radio therapy, everything comes back to normal now just like before. I regain my strength almost 100% now, most of the side effects are gone and PSA is stable and almost undetectable. I just wish and hope and pray that this will continue all the way.

My next PSA test will be on mid October 2013. Wish all the luck to me and to all my colleagues here fighting the same enemy, and continue to fight and pray for those who are still struggling. I will update my profile post PSA test this October. I have not regret my decision to go with IMRT with ADT. My doctor is one of the best. Keep up all the struggle and don't give up...!!! Cheerssss... ;)

UPDATED

October 2014

I am approaching my 2nd year since my last dose of my radiation therapy. The score remains close at 0.09 ng/ml. I will have my last routine test for my every 3 months this coming November and after that, I will be on a twice a year routine. I don't have a diet and exercise routine as too much busy for work. I hope this is not bad for me. Weight is at constant. My diabetes is at controllable rate but my stupidity on craving for sugar is putting me on high risk. I hope I can control my craving. Keep it up and the struggle continues. God bless to all.
