Warwick Ford lives in Queensland, Australia. He was 64 when he was diagnosed in April, 2010. His initial PSA was 3.00 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 9, and he was staged T2c. His initial treatment choice was Brachytherapy (High Dosage with EB and ADT) and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2015 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

Went to the GP with a sore wrist, decided to see my old GP rather than the one I saw at the "medical centre" as my previous GP tended to be more thorough.

The doc put me up on the bench to check my abdomen, then rolled my on my side and performed a DRE (Digital Rectal Examination). He didn't like the lump so off to have a blood test and scan, came back with only a small amount of minor prostate swelling and a PSA of 3.0.

Off to the Urologist who thought there was nothing much to worry about but just to be sure recommended a biopsy, the results were a Gleason Score of 9 in 8 of the core samples, the nightmare begins!

UPDATED

July 2011

It has been near 15 months since the initial diagnosis, my first consulting urologist sent me to take a 2nd opinion from a radio oncologist. Dr Mackean spent an hour thoroughly going through my options and possible outcomes which left no doubt there was a serious problem that must be dealt with, Grade 5 gleason 9, stage 2c, the result of this was I chose HDR Brachytherapy, surgery would have left me with a poorer quality of life primarily because of cancer location.

I was placed on Androcur for two weeks and then Zoladex which I have been on for a total of 15 months, I went into the Wesley hospital for four days for the brachytherapy procedure, the entire process was relatively pain free - a dentist is worse - the treatment and care I received was exemplary. Two weeks afterwards I was given 23 sessions of EBRT, no side effects whatsoever, as a matter of fact the only thing that I suffered from was Zoladex!! Sobbing spells, despair, joint/muscle pain, thinking fogginess, fatigue, no libido which didn't matter as I also had ED and of course hot flushes.

Today July 8, 2011 I have come to the end of all treatment and feel absolutely fine, and have my life back, I have become much more aware of my nutrition and particularly the love of those around me.

UPDATED

September 2012

It has been 15 months since the "expiry" of my last Zoladex shot, my testosterone level is .7, and I await the return to a normal level and hopefully a recovery of sexual function. Apart from that I am on top of the world with no after effects from treatment and my urologist ensures me cancer free!

UPDATED

October 2013

Recent PSA; is virtually undetectable, testosterone is now slowly rising and feel better for it, still have erectile dysfunction and that was expected by the medical team anyway, apart from that I feel as normal as I did prior to discovering the cancer. I exercise 4 nights per week, martial arts, and I think the vigourous exercise has really helped.

UPDATED

January 2014

Blood test results are in and my PSA is unreadable, testosterone has stayed at the same low level, all is good. For me HDR (not seed as erroneously reported elsewhere) Bracytherapy has worked a treat.

UPDATED

May 2014

Recent PSA; test came back .03, testosterone level 4.6. apart from erectile dysfunction nil side effects, I feel great.
