John F lives in Hawaii, USA. He was 73 when he was diagnosed in August, 2020. His initial PSA was 6.82 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 7a, and he was staged T1c. His initial treatment choice was Surgery (Robotic Laparoscopic Prostatectomy) and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

Annual P.E blood work in May2020 showed PSA 6.82, (over 2pt increase from previous few years). Referred to Urologist who performed biopsy late Aug2020. 9 of 15 cores showed adenocarcinoma approximately 13.8% overall involved. CT and MRI done in Sept and Oct did not indicate any suspicious spreading beyond prostate. Thoroughly researched treatment options: Radiation vs Surgery and decided on Da Vinci Robotic procedure to get it all out. Felt this gave more options for future treatments if surgery did not catch all cancer. Surgeon also explained near term outcomes were similar, but long term, radiation side affects may be more manifested. I consulted with several friends as well who made same choice, all in their 70's. Surgery was 15 days ago and went well. Discharged next afternoon. Catheter and extreme bloating were uncomfortable, but tolerable. Catheter removed one week ago and very fortunately with no subsequent incontinence at all. Did Kegels for a few weeks prior and in general stay very fit with regular swimming, paddling and core work outs which probably helped too. Pathology report confirmed Gleason score, but less involvement - 10% than clinical estimate; margins, lymph nodes etc were all good. Very relieved with report. Next step will be first PSA in Mar2021. Each day since surgery gets better. This website was very helpful to me leading up to treatment and hope my input will help others.
