Bob Latchford lives in Texas, USA. He was 70 when he was diagnosed in December, 2016. His initial PSA was 7.23 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 8, and he was staged T2a. His initial treatment choice was Brachytherapy (Other) and his current treatment choice is ADT-Androgen Deprivation (Hormone) (ADT2). Here is his story.

Initially, after biopsy, I chose Brachytherapy and received a "6 month" injection of Leuprolide 45mg in March 2017. I had such terrible side effects from the injection that I changed doctors and got a Radical Prostatectomy June 2017. The side effects of the Leuprolide lasted for 18 months and included headaches, full sweat hot flashes every 45 minutes, depression, and loss of memory recall.

After 3 years (Feb 2020) PSA rose to 2.0 and I began 7 weeks of external beam radiation treatments. PSA one month after Radiation 1.99, waiting 2 months to see if PSA moves.

UPDATED

October 2022

After my Prostrate surgery and followups, I was not aware that I needed to continue to monitor PSA every 6 months and had not done so. Three years after surgery my PSA was at 2.0 and I needed 7 weeks (35 days) of radiation treatment. Radiation was easy (hardest part was arriving with a full bladder). I found that I had to drink about 24oz of water 20 minutes before the apointment. Radiation was completed on 7/21/2021. PSA is at 0.14 as of 7/18/2022.

UPDATED

May 2023

3 years after radiation treatment my PSA has began to rise.

Now at .55 I am getting full body bone scan and CT images to determing the location and extent that the cancer has spread.

UPDATED

February 2024

PSA levels continue to rise, biref Radiation (5 additional exposures) did not affect continued climb. Next step Hormone treatement - Monthly injections of Leuprolide in smaller dose. I am fearful of the side effects.

UPDATED

February 2024

CT scan has shown locations beyond the prostate bed and rediation is no longer an option. I have begun Hormone Tteatment with Lupron (Lerprolide) in monthly injections of 7mg. My last experience with Leuprolide was 45mg in 3/2017 and it was terrible as noted above. Hoping for better side effects this time with smaller amount.
