Steven Snyder lives in Maryland, USA. He was 57 when he was diagnosed in May, 2008. His initial PSA was 0.10 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 6, and he was staged T2a. His initial treatment choice was Surgery (Robotic Laparoscopic Prostatectomy) and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

For the last 8 years, I have been receiving yearly prostate check ups. I asked my doctor for a PSA Blood test - March 08.

The test came back 0.1! GREAT! On May 2,2008, I ask my doctor to help me reduce the size of my prostate. DRE (Digital Rectal Examination)showed a hard out of shape prostate. Out of 12 biopsy one was 90% cancer. The low PSA may be due to Lipitor which may lower a PSA test.

I was proactive when it came to prostate care. Never was I upset or worry. Just wanted to learn as much as possible about all my options.

I will update ASAP.

I had some questions about the catheter so I e-mailed the following Mentors: Gary Rich; Carey Murrell; Ron Hard and Michael Raymond. Great answers & Tips [Steve may not have found USEFUL ITEMS!]

Shave the upper thighs before surgery. If you are hairy, "PAIN" Buy some WIDE Tape. If you put this on first then you can tape to it. When removing, you will be removing only one tape.

Buy a Donut to sit on when being driven.

Use Motrin; Advil or the pain pill that your doctor has given you every you for the first week.

Sleep on your back. Keep some slack in the line going to the bag.

Wear snug fitting Jockey Shorts - Helps holds the catheter still so it would not pull & tug on your penis as you walk.

Start stool softener two days before - Buy COLACE.

Clean off the blood that dries at the meatus (opening of your penis) around the catheter. Do this Daily.

Thank you Mentors for your help,

Steve

October 2008

Arrived for surgery Monday morning September 8, 2008. Surgery took about four hours. No pain at all. Stayed in the hospital two days. Spent a lot of my time walking the halls. When I returned home, I walked every two hours on my large deck. I never left the house. Just counting the days when the catheter would be removed.

Eight days after surgery, the catheter was removed. no pain at all. This was a great day. But for days ahead- up to this update, I still have incontinence going through a lot of pads. At night time, I never have any problems. Just when I am standing - walking. Still doing my Kegels work out about four times a day.

As for E.D. no good news yet. Will be using a pump in November plus Cialis 20mg. Take away the incontinence, I feel great. Will up date soon with the results from the Pump & Cialis.

January 2009

January 2, 2009. It has been Four Months now. Still leaking during the day. But for the last two weeks, I have been doing better! As for ED - No improvement at all.

Hope to have a better update to give in a few months. What is important to me is that I feel great and staying active every day.

UPDATED

June 2010

On March 1, 2010, I had surgery to fix my incontinence and ED. Since I had ED problem before the Prostate surgery, I knew that Pills and Injections may not work.

The surgery went very well. Post surgery pain was a 3 out of 5. I return to work five weeks after surgery. I drive a Tractor Trailer for a living. A penile implant may not be such a great idea for an over the Road Truck Driver.

Due to time, I will do my best to give a more detail update on the Male Three Piece Implant and sling ASAP. If you have ED, and Pills and Injections have not worked for you, The implant will make your Wife or girl friend very HAPPY!

E-Mail me if you have any questions.

Later: Reading the many stories on the YANA's pages, we learn the most important word is RESEARCH. Don't rush into any surgery [or any other therapy!!] without doing your research.

I was ready to set up a surgery date for a Penile Implant and a Male Sling with a local doctor. I ask the Doctor, "Do you do a three piece penile implant or a Two-Piece?" He said, "you will be getting a two piece - you don't want a three piece"

The point is if you don't ask what type of Male Sling and Penile implant you are getting, you may be very unhappy. If the doctor is not skilled in doing a three piece, you may get a one or two piece implant. RESEARCH and ask questions. I wanted a Three Piece AMS-LGX which has the capability to expand in both girth and length. With information received on Sirius / XM Doctor radio show (Wed. 6PM ) title Men Health, The Doctor told me a male sling and Penile implant can be done at the same time. If your Doctor said "No", find one who will. Make sure he can do the three piece and has done over 1,000 of these implants. A great web site with pictures is this BLOG (For Adults only)

I will tell you my story about my Three piece penile implant on my next update. Have to get off, my wife wants to see me in the bedroom ASAP. Check out the Radio Show and web site. Prostate Cancer is not the end of your sex life.

UPDATED

February 2011

It almost one year since my three - piece penile prosthesis and the InVance male sling surgery on March 1, 2010. I feel great and my life is back to normal.

Saying that, I not 100% but I can run; jump; enjoy sex; and my wife and I are very happy. Still there are minor problems that I will get to later in my update.

I chose the AMS 700 MS three-piece inflatable prostheses because it looks natural and is highly satisfying to their partners. My wife and I agree with that 100%. I chose the InVance Male Sling over the AdVance Male Sling because I had Moderate to high incontinence. If you have moderate to high please make sure your doctor can do the InVance Sling. My doctor told me the penile prosthesis alone will in most cases stop my incontinence but I chose to have both done at the same time.

Since my surgery, I have been pad free but not 100% free of urine leaks. Most of the time it just a small leak. Four weeks ago, I had to unload heavy carpet pads from my tractor trailer delivery stops. I was really put to the test! I fail - my pants was wet and I had no pads. The next two stops was no leaks. As of this post, still no leaks.

As for the Three piece prostheses, the only problems that I have is sitting on hard seats. If you want information about my surgery, please e-mail me.

If you have ED problems after Prostate Surgery and no ED problems before, Please note - It may take two years or less, but it should return. If not, ask about the Penile Prosthesis Surgery. My Wife and I are very happy with the satisfying results.
