This is his Country or State Flag

Michael Scott and Sara live in England. He was 43 when he was diagnosed in October, 2005. His initial PSA was 2.70 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 7, and he was staged T1c. His initial treatment choice was Surgery (Retropubic Prostatectomy) and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2017 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

My name is Mick and I live in the UK.

It is a full 12 months now since I had my radical prostectomy. Wish I had been given the option of a perennial. I also had the lymph nodes removed.

My gleason score was 7 and the cancer diagnosed as aggressive.

I have just had my 45th birthday so it was quite a shock to find I had the big C just before my 44th birthday - I was 43 when diagnosed.

For the record I have never smoked, I eat healthily and hardly drink any alcohol. I play five a side football once a week; have done for the last 8 years on and off and I am of medium build, not fat.

It just goes to show if its going to happen it will happen no matter what.

Just had my fourth blood test and results are less than 0.1 ng/ml.

I had two tumors, one on each side of my prostate, the pathology report said they were 0.5mm from breaking out, this was only realised two weeks after the operation.Three weeks after surgery I went to see my consultant for the lab report on my prostate and lymph nodes. The lab report said I was Gleason 7 stage 2, with lymph nodes clear.

Its been tough, still is. The whole thing places one hell of a strain on your marriage.

UPDATED

May 2008

I got divorced this month May 7th 2008. Shirley and I had been together for 25 years, almost 20 years married or would have been on the 13th May 2008.

After a long struggle with penis nerve damage I can get erections without Cialis / Viagra etc, but I am not able sustain them so I still rely on the medication for intercourse. It took almost two full years to regain erections due to nerve damage.

This type of illness puts a serious strain on your relationship / marriage, particularly if you're still relatively young and you had been having a good and active sex life before the illness.

Time to start living all over again I suppose.

Life is the most precious thing of all and you have to believe and stay focused on that.

Cheers, Mick.....

UPDATED

September 2009

I am still divorced and living with my teenage son and daughter; Daniel 19 and Katie 18. I have been doing Salsa dancing for the last five months and also keep fit with weights.

I'm fitter and healthier now than I ever was and don't even think about the whole cancer thing. My sex life is brilliant.

I don't expect anything to recur just remain positive and upbeat.

UPDATED

March 2011

I'm still doing well, my PSA is only tested annually now as I have passed the five year clear period. My levels are less than 0.01 which is classed as clear here in the UK.

Still divorced, my son and daughter still are at home with me. I do salsa dancing for fitness and love it.

Problems will always be with me but you focus on good things. I have a very active sex life but have a lot of trouble the day after due to having a free floating bladder. Its like shaking up a can of pop [soda for the US readers] if you get my drift, but that's the least of my worries. There are lots of men with this horrible disease who would swop places with me in an instant and I am grateful for what I have.

Life is so precious.

UPDATED

July 2013

Im still having the annual blood test.

Ive noticed over the years that my nerves have started to heal because I now only have to take a quarter tablet of Cialis instead of a full 10mg tablet.

Still have bladder pain (feels like an infection) if I'm sexually active, or jog, this will always remain.

I always remain positive and try not to worry about anything, easier said than done but I belive that a positive mind is key to overall health.

My son and daughter still live with me and so does my beautiful girlfriend (salsa partner).

Sara and I have been together for three years now we have so much fun together.

Life is wonderful, forget money worries where possible, just enjoy all you can.

UPDATED

August 2014

Still progressing nicely. I try to remain as stress free as much as I can. Over the last year or so I have not been as active as I should, I need to start dancing again and doing more physical exercise. Not overweight, I try to watch what I eat when possible, I have cut out sugar completely in tea an cofee. I have my next blood test Xmas 2014, fingers crossed it will be as previous.

Still in a loving relationship with my partner of over 4 years, Sara.

Good luck to all.

Mick.

UPDATED

November 2015

Still clear, my annual blood test is not due until Xmas 2015.

Nerve damage continues to improve.

Im still in a loving relationship with my Partner Sara.

Would love to get back Salsa dancing but with my current workload this is proving difficult.

I always try to remain positve and not to stress out if possible, I believe being stress free is the key to longevity.

Good luck to all!
