Ian Yearwood lives in England. He was 56 when he was diagnosed in March, 2007. His initial PSA was 19.00 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 6, and he was staged T1c. His initial treatment choice was Non-Invasive (Active Surveillance) and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

In about the latter half of 2004 I noticed some blood in my semen. Went to see my GP who carried out a rectal examination of the prostate and had a urine analysis. Both these tests were inconclusive as to the cause. A PSA test was the next test which resulted in a PSA of 4.0. I was then referred to a Urology Consultant who suggested a biopsy to actually see if the prostate was cancerous.

The biopsy was very painful. The results were negative. However it was also suggested that I six monthly blood tests and a yearly biopsy. The biopsies turned out to be more frequent than this as I discovered and related to the Consultant, that my father had prostate cancer, so did his brothers. I reluctantly agreed.

In the mean time I had joined the local Prostate Cancer Support Group and discovered much more about this condition and its available treatment. I refused to have any more biopsies in 2006, though carried on with the blood tests.

In Jan 2007 the PSA was 19.0 (a time of great relationship stress) and was advised to have a mass biopsy this time, thankfully under general anaesthetic. In March I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer.

The PSA readings are as follows;-

2004 4.0
2005 Jan 4.1, Jul 3.5, Sep 3.4
2006 Jul 3.7
2007 Jan 19, Feb 7.7, Aug 4.1, Nov 5.1
2008 Feb 5.3, Nov 5.3
2009 Apr 7.7

I opted for Watchful Waiting though my Consultant heavily stressed a radical prostatectomy.

I started with Chinese herbs in March 2007, then started to change diet, though I have not eaten meat for about 20 years now. Fish, yes. I finished the Chinese Herbs at the end of 2007 and turned to Ayurvedic tablets in 2008 and in March started to learn more about an Alkaline diet and Lifestyle through reading Sick & Tired by Dr. Robert Young. I attended his Nutritional Microscopy Courses to be able to be able to monitor my progress on the choices I have made.

I was able to see the developing acidic condition and the marker for a Reproductive Challenge. The latest PSA reading, Apr 2009, is now indicative to me of a certain size and level of acidity of the internal environment. I am working on the bottom line that one's internal environment has to be at a certain Alkaline level to be in a healthy state.

Key for me, is my emotional and mental states, which I have found has a bigger impact on my acidity level, than diet. There is also a yearly ebb and flow cycle. I do not consider myself to have cancer, it is my body that has this condition. A very big difference to me.

The experimenting goes on.

UPDATED

December 2009

Ian reports that his PSA is now 5.5 ng/ml.

UPDATED

June 2010

PSA reading in May 2010 is 6.5, up from 5.5 six months ago.

UPDATED

November 2010

Latest PSA reading - November 2010 is 7.0.

UPDATED

December 2011

PSA reading in May 2011 was 7.9.

UPDATED

April 2012

This PSA reading is for December 2011.

If it is possible can my treatment be changed from Alkaline Diet to Alkaline Lifestyle (this includes diet and is more inclusive of attitude, outlook on life, etc.)

Many thanks.

Ian.

UPDATED

March 2013

My current PSA taken in Jan 2013, is 13.2

Previous PSA taken in August 2012, is 13.16

An MRI scan shows the prostate has nearly doubled in size. Am not aware of any symptoms that is usually associated with this. I have not been too strict with my Alkaline Lifestyle, so am now looking to change that - this includes the food that I eat. Will continue with this regime until the next blood test in six months time.

UPDATED

September 2013

PSA for May 2103 is 14.44
PSA for Aug 2013 is 17.08

Have now changed to a new herbal regime and a stricter diet.

UPDATED

August 2014

PSA at Jan 2014 was 18.76. Now at June 2014 it is 20.06.

Since the June results I have started on another regime, focusing more on hormone balancing. Taking a herbal tonic for balancing the progestorene and testosterone and also supplementing a little with zinc and selenium. I am not too concerned about the rise of the PSA. A recent testosterone test has shown it to be in the lower end of the range, which may well account for my lower sense of well-being, noticeable, but not that serious. Need to eliminate low testosterone as a cause first. My daily herbal nutripowder is still being taken.

UPDATED

December 2014

I have opted not to have any medical intervention and have changed my herbal remedies. The experiment goes on. I am quite comfortable within myself about this.

UPDATED

January 2016

PSA in June 2015 was 31.6. Decided no to follow any particular diet or supplement, but try to minimise the usual sugar, dairy, etc. So adopted a "don't care" attitude. In October 2015 was diagnosed with atrial fibrilation and lack of Vit B12, which may account for lack of energy/concentration (B12). I follow a vegetarian diet - not strict. A couple of events that caused high mental stress has occurred during June and October and worked through. A life growing process.

Am now taking a Multi Vitamin and feeling much better. Looking back over the years, there was a time of PSA decline, so may perhaps see what the regimen was and think about trying that again. My frequency of urination has not changed over the last three years, which is interesting. I am not too concerned with the rise in PSA as I continue to feel well and enjoy life. Proceeding cautiously, not paying too much attention to the physical body.

UPDATED

February 2017

My PSA as of October 2016 is 47.0. Previously in June 2016 it was 41.0. Continuing with the supplement regime.

UPDATED

July 2017

Continuing with the present regime and now also actively looking at ways to reduce emotional and mental stress.

UPDATED

February 2018

I have changed my supplements, back to those when the increase was at a slower rate and am continuing to pursue the reduction of stress in all its forms. There is a weaker urinary flow.

UPDATED

March 2019

In October 2018 the day before I was due for a PSA test, I was involved in a minor car accident and had to deal with an irate driver - understandably. My PSA result from that test on the following day was 81. I had another, six weeks later and it was 61. In the interveining time I concentrated on lowering physical, emotioal and mental stress as best as I could.

This result proved beyond any doubt that for me, stress plays a large part in my wellbeing. In December I had an MRI scan and a full body Bone scan. The MRI reveald that I had an enlarged prostate and no obvious tumours. The possible tumours were held within the prostate and not towards the edges. The Bone scan came back normal - no signs of cancer. I declined to hae a biopsy to investigate the possible tumours.

I continue to restrict my dairy intake to butter and feta cheese now and again. my main health specific supplements are ABC daily powder and Ashwaganda Vital Man. Exerise, less stress of all kinds (using meditation, music and crystals, not supplements) and not worrying too much about my prostate. I feel well and continue to be positive about life in general, enjoying it as it comes. If I am very tried from exercise I do sleep through the night. Otherwise, I am awake after about four hours. This is about the frequency during the day.

As always it will be interesting to see the result of my next PSA test.

UPDATED

April 2020

My PSA was last tested in November 2019. To me, at the moment, it is a marker of the degree of "stress" (mostly emotional and mental) I am under, considering the current Lifestyle regime I am on. I was in hospital with a pulmonary embolism in October, whether that had a bearing on my PSA, is difficult to say.

At the beginning of 2020 I decided to experiment in ways to reduce my enlarged prostate condition, though this is not giving me an undue problem. Included in my regime is now Prostateless Tonic and Testos4Torros Tonic for a little more vitality, vigour, energy etc. in life generally. In turn boosting the immune system.

To date, the enthusiasim, clearer thinking and vitality is noticeable. I am more focusing on other things, away from my physical condition. It is refreshing. The plan is to have another PSA test in November/December. Hopefully the COVID-19 situation will have subsided by then.

UPDATED

January 2021

The rate of increase has declined since the 2018 reading. I take it as a positive outcome of the process I am undertaking. No test in 2020 and the latest in Jan 2021.

Have concentrated on reducing any emotional and mental stress, by means of meditation, a positive "Lifestyle" and ayurvedic supplements. Had a MRI and whole body bone scan towards the end of 2019. Nothing untoward was found. My prostate condition is not a major concern in my life, but I try to feed my body with fuel (food) that gives vitality (vegetable/nuts/seeds etc.) rather than stuff that robs it of vitality (sugar, dairy, meat, etc.).

UPDATED

November 2021

PSA as of Aug 2021. Treatment continues with supplements of ashwaganda tablets and ABC herbal powder, methods of reducing stress, exercise, maintaining a positive outlook on life, keeping the body as alkaline as possible and lastly getting on with life, i.e. not focusing on the prostate condition.

UPDATED

November 2022

I do have an enlarged porstate and am working to reduce this.

PSA at Aug 2021 (08/21) was 99. In March 2022 (03/22) was 118.

It is now, in July 2022 (07/22). 119.14. The next check is in Dec 2022.

UPDATED

December 2022

I think this stabilisation and slight reduction of PSA is in part the result of using Prostate Healer consistently over the last four months. Will continue using and see what happens in six months time. Also working on frequent night time visits to the bathroom, which the above should also help with.

UPDATED

July 2023

Have continued with Prostate Healer and added, in the last three months, Prostate Power. These are being used sporadically and alternately. The mind has a big impact on the physical body so am continuing with meditation as well. Have proved to myself that night time visits can be reduced by the state of mind before going to bed and food consumed. This is interesting.

UPDATED

January 2024

PSA has climbed to 145 in December 2023. Up from 110 six months earlier and 118 six months before that. This may be down to a couple of causes. One is that I stopped taking Prostate Healer regularly and indeed stopped for a month. The other is that I have undertaken more responsibility in my volunteering work, which has temporarily increased the stress factor as I get used to the new situation. I am told that my blood shows no sign of bone cancer, and liver and kidney conditions are normal. I have been offered hormone treatment and surgery, which have turned down. I do not get fatigued or suffer from loss of energy and am in good spirits and enjoying life. So am back on 'Prostate Healer', regularly for the next six months. This should prove to my satisfaction its usefulness! I do know that I have an enlarged prostate and am taking 'Lycopene Tonic', which is very helpful, getting up once or twice in the night, or sometimes not at all.
