Ed Rider and Sheryl live in North Carolina, USA. He was 60 when he was diagnosed in February, 2010. His initial PSA was 2.40 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 7, and he was staged T2a. His initial treatment choice was Surgery (Retropubic Prostatectomy) and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2014 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

I had a physical on December 29, 2009. My PSA score was lower than normal, but my doctor found an irregularity on the right side of my prostate during the rectal exam.

He sent my to a urologist who did a biopsy on February 9, 2010, and they found cancer in five out of 12 samples they pulled from my prostate.

I am scheduled for surgery on April 19. This decision was reached after obtaining a second opinion.

UPDATED

March 2011

After the surgery, I hated the catheter. But just a few days later, it was removed. After removal, I was sore for a couple days. But the soreness left me quickly. I wore the pads for a few weeks. But I didn't mind because I kept thinking about the alternative. My wife was very supportive during this time. If I wet the bed, she said "So what!". Now, I no longer have to wear the pads or worry about wetting the bed. Things have improved significantly.

Sex? I have had problems "getting it up". But my wife, God bless her, doesn't seem to mind. And yet, she has figured out ways to "get me off", and boy, she really does. And she does it without expectation of reciprocation. I am telling you that your orgasm will be more intense than you have ever felt. I will continue to work on the impotence problem. And I am sure I will find a solution.

UPDATED

April 2012

I am satisfied with the treatment I chose and confident that I made the right decision.

UPDATED

July 2013

Still visiting the urologist every 6 months. After the next visit we will move to once per year. No detectable PSA. All is well.
