THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2020 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.
So far the accepting the diagnosis has been fine. My doctor expresses concern that the PSA has gone from 6 to 8 in 12 weeks. At the moment I've chosen active surveillance and getting a very detailed second opinion on how to proceed.
I was comfortable using active surveillance. However in three months my PSA went from 6 to 8. Additionally the cancer location was found to be along my prostate perimeter and showing a bulging effect. This was enough rapid change for me to comfortably proceed with surgery in late June, 2017.
My results as of November, 2017: PSA reading is negligible, incontinence has been so minor that not to be an issue, erection is slight and haven't had sex since surgery however masturbation is stimulating. Hopefully this will improve.
My physician as surgeon feels the cancer issue is resolved. I have a followup appointment in January and regular checks from now on.
The procedure was robotic and discomfort minor. Having experienced other unrelated surgeries, this was no issue.
Currently it is believed that my prostate cancer issue is resolved. I am visiting my physician every 6 months for a PSA and any issues. My continuing problem is firm erections. Current use of 200 mg sildenafil citrate has not been sufficient. I think perhaps part of my issue has become psychological. Regardless, my doctor has offered me a coming appointment with a specialist in these matters. I feel fortunate that my wife is compassionately understanding.
