UPDATED

August 2012

My PSA jumped from 43.9 in April to 166.0 this month. No pain or symptoms. Commenced Zoladex and Casodex last week. I will update after first PSA test.

Chris.

UPDATED

September 2010

First PSA test 4 weeks after commencing Hormone Therapy was 1.2. This is a spectactular result (Oncologist's words). In addition side effects are minimal, some night sweats which are only mild, and a dry mouth during the night.

UPDATED

May 2012

Since my last update, I had 3 more Zoladex implants in November 2010, February and May 2011. PSA was 0.2 in May 2011, and was at this level in July 2011. Zoladex was ceased. The only side effects were and still are hot flushes. These are easily managed, I have a small fan next to my chair. I also throw the doona off many times during the night. I have no symptoms. My PSA has gradually crept up to 1.8 last week, 9 months after last implant expired. My next appointment with my Oncologist is in August, the PSA rise will determine when I resume Zoladex. I commenced Pomegranite extract capsules in March.

UPDATED

November 2012

My PSA has risen from 12.1 in August to 56.7 in November. Because of this rise I am back on Zoladex 10.8mg implant.

My time off Zoladex has only been 12 months, so it looks like I may be on it permanemtly from now on.

I have been on a bit of a health kick, so the latest reading is a bit disappointing. I hope my PSA will drop as quickly as it did last year.

UPDATED

February 2013

Jan 2013, PSA down to 12.5. Feb 2013 - PSA 21.1. Will test again in 6 weeks and if there has not been a reduction in PSA I will add Cosudex.

UPDATED

April 2013

April 2013 - My PSA has risen to 46.9 which is a doubling time of 2 months. I have added Cosudex 50mg daily to my Zoladex 10.8mg implant. I consult my Oncologist on 23 May. I am concerned that my Testosterone has not been measured for 8 years, I will be raising this with the Oncologist.

Apart from the Incontinence which is annoying, I am feeling well with hot flushes the only other side effect.

UPDATED

May 2013

Visited Oncologist last week, PSA 31.0 which is a drop of 30%. I have added 50mg Androcur at night to assist with hot flushes.

UPDATED

July 2013

1 July PSA has risen dramatically from 31 to 132 in just 5 weeks. Oncologist recommends ceasing casodex and getting another PSA in a week. If PSA has come down he suggests commencing Anandron 150mg 1 per day.

I need to consider getting a second opinion from another Onchologist particurarily one specialising in Prostate cancer. I think I want to be more pro active than reactive.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

UPDATED

September 2014

It has been a difficult 12 months. In August, due to severe pain in the back, I consulted a radiation Onchologist who arranged 10 sessions of Radiation to the back. The pain ceased and has not returned.

My PSA had risen to 510 by November so I commenced chemotherapy, 9 sessions and my PSA came down to 35. I tolerated the Chemotherapy quite well. I was now getting pain in my left hip. I will commence Radiation to the hip at the end of August.

I have lost energy and find even small tasks very exhausting, but other than that I feel quite well.
