G T and Myron live in Maryland, USA. He was 67 when he was diagnosed in April, 2010. His initial PSA was 5.50 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 7a, and he was staged Unknown. His initial treatment choice was Surgery (Robotic Laparoscopic Prostatectomy) and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2015 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

Had biopsy in 2010 (will NEVER do again without sedation) showed 3+4 (7). Bone scan negative.

Oct 2010 tried robotic surgery. It failed and cut colon. Prostate removal was aborted & colon fixed. No after problems.

In Jan 2011 standard RP operation. Surgeon said lab showed cancer had not penetrated prostate shell. Apr. 2011 PSA 0.6. PSA continued to rise slowly. Urologist felt small piece and over 2 years took biopsy samples that were negative, but PSA continued to rise to 2.9 by Jan 2014. and 3.1 on 3/28/14

Joined NIH study. They did endoMRI followed by recent MRI/ultrasound guided biopsy. The remaining prostate tissue is only 1.1cm long. Of the 8 biopsy cores 6 were benign , one was 3+4, and one was 4+3. NIH recommends "focused" radiation.

I'm currently in the process of deciding wether or not to do the radiation. I am concerned about side affects in the future.I also had a colleague die of radiation over dose a few years ago, but I think he also had Barachatherapy. Will visit with various doctors to make decision as well as talk to NIH radiologist as I am enrolled in their clinical study.

My understanding is that the PSA will rise if ANY tissue is left in the prostate bed. It is the doubling factor that is most important. Even though the NIH biopsy shows I have some cancerous tissue, and they know exactly where it is located, can the radiation truly focus just on that??? I read that ginger and broccili sprout extract (available in a patented form) will kill prostate cancer, but the clinical studies were not with humans. Do I have time to try that???? I guess it couldn't hurt. At what point do I really have to make a decision?? Not sure.

I am still healthy and active. My worse problem is anxiety over PSA numbers that more & more researchers say are not as important as they use to believe. I'll update as I go along.
