This is his Country or State Flag

Retired tech Stan and Marilyn live in Pennsylvania, USA. He was 69 when he was diagnosed in May, 2011. His initial PSA was 2.10 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 6, and he was staged T4. His initial treatment choice was ADT-Androgen Deprivation (Hormone) (Monotherapy) and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2015 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

After having bladder cancer 15 years ago I had a visit to my urologist every year. My last visit to the family doctor who took the PSA and it came back 2.1. He told me not to worry because my PSA was low. After going to my urologist he did the DRE and found something funny so he ordered a biopsy which can back positive for cancer in 60% of both sides so a bone and CT scan was ordered. The bone scan lit up like a Xmas Tree.

The only option offered was a shot of Lupron and was sent to a radiation doctor at local hospital. His recommendation was plant seed (Bracytherapy) because my prostate was small and would be easy to plant the seeds and not to worry about the bone mets for now.

I was not to happy with that response so it was time to look further. I checked John Hopkins and Cancer Center of America but a few friends recommended Fox Chase Cancer Center so I made a appointment with a radiation oncologist and a medical oncologist. After a good exam by the radiation onc he said I could have the seeds but there was no proof it would extend my life but it would increase the side effect I already have. So on to the medical onc who said the same thing and they both said I was one of only 5% with a low PSA and had so many bone mets. Boy am I lucky.

So after 2 years of Lupron shots the PSA remains at 0.3 and bone scan show no more mets. I will be due for another bone and CT scan.

UPDATED

October 2013

The last 2 PSA test were at .02 and testosterone was below 10. Since PSA is holding steady no further scan or test were ordered we will be going to Florida for the winter so we are working to get the correct lupron shot so I do not have to worry about them till May June of 2014.

I am still on morphine for pain and it seems to take care of most of the pain problem. I am still riding my bike 5 miles a day weather permitting. I can not wait to get back to Florida so I can ride in warmer weather.
