Quincy Pretti and Connie live in New Mexico, USA. He was 52 when he was diagnosed in March, 2007. His initial PSA was 511.00 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 9, and he was staged T2b. His initial treatment choice was ADT-Androgen Deprivation (Hormone) (ADT2) and his current treatment choice is Other (Other). Here is his story.

THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2017 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

I got my first PSA test along with my annual physical at age 52, I know that it should have been done at age 50 but you know how these things go. was I surprised when the test came back at 511. My PCP immediately got me an appointment with his urologist for a 12 point biopsy which, even worse, came back with all 12 cores positive and a Gleason of 9. Given these numbers we decided that there was no reason to try a course of antibiotics, I had PCa and no doubt about it.

The final results and our spousal meeting were discussed on March 8, 2007. It was clear that surgery was out of the question as the bone scan showed lesions in the ribs and pelvis. They were small but they were there. We decided on ADT2, Lupron and Casodex. the Casodex been already been started 2 weeks earlier so I got my first injection of lupronthat day. I chose the once every 4 months 30 mg/sl as I live 35 miles from the clinic. My PSA was down to 2.8 in 5 weeks so we discontinued the Casodex. The second bone scan showed negative so we had caught it just in time.

I have remained on Lupron for 6 years, returning to Casodex last year as my PSA was slowly rising. Here's the current stats: PSA 4.5 Gleason 9. bone scan neg.

UPDATED

July 2014

The only other treatment therapy since the initial diagnosis in 2007 is Provenge in 2013. Side effects caused my PSA to jump from 7.3 to 28.5, and it has continued to rise to the current value of 43. I have had bone scans, CT scans and X-rays, and there have been no changes since 2007.

UPDATED

September 2015

Since I last wrote I had undergone Provenge in 2013 I believe. I have now undergone all six one month injections of Xofigo or radium 223. I was the only trial member out of four that completed the Tx, the others were forced to drop out due to anemia. This trial went from 2/4----7/4/2015. I feel the benefits already in increased activity level and lowered pain levels. I would recommend this Tx. I also remained on Lupron as I have for the past 8.5 years.
