Tom Donaway and Mary live in Pennsylvania, USA. He was 55 when he was diagnosed in February, 2013. His initial PSA was 19.00 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 6, and he was staged Unknown. His initial treatment choice was Surgery (Robotic Laparoscopic Prostatectomy) and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2014 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

I started with a PSA test at the recommendation of my cardiologist in early 2010. My first PSA came back at 8 and my cardiologist told me to go see my urologist. My urologist put me on a 21 day regiment of antibiotic and retested my PSA the test came back at 13. He did biopsies which came back negative. Late 2012 I called my urologist about urinating frquently and was informed he retired and recommended to a new one. At my first visit he said that since I had elevated PSA counts in the past he wanted new PSA count done. The count came back at 19. So he said he wanted to do a saturated biopsy which is 24 samples. On Feb 15th he informed me that I had prostate cancer 13 of the 24 samples contained cancer. My gleason score was 6. I had CT scans done of the abdomin and pelvis which came back clear and also a bone scan which is ok. Exploring treatment options now.

UPDATED

August 2013

I had surgery on 4/22/13 through Dr Lee at Penn Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia. I chose surgery over radiation because it left the most options in case of return. I am over weight 5'9" 275 my urologist Dr Landow and a Dr Chen at Fox chase didn't want to operate they were not up to the challenge. Dr lee was willing to do the surgery without hesitation. The surgery went extremely well he managed to save most of the nerves attached to the prostate. So my erectile functions started returning within a few weeks. Other than a little leakage still at 3 months I am extremely happy with the outcome.
