Let me tell you my story.
I had a GP that did not believe in PSA screening. So I went until my wife decided we change physician for many reasons not related to PCa.
This new physician did a PSA test with all the other blood work and it came back -

4,08 (02/0/2009)
5,06 (09/06/2009)
and then every thing went very fast: I had a biopsy in July 2009 with 2 /8 site positive for adenocarcinoma of the prostate. I was 53 years old, married to the same wife for 30 years, retired (yes, already!) with 4 beautiful children.
The urologist gave us surgery as the only choice. Another uro-oncologist gave the same advice and so he did the surgery with Da Vinci robot on the 14/0/2009. The PSA level came down to below 0.03 until June 2012 when it came back 0.05 ng/ml, then 0.06 in July 2012, then 0.06 in September 2012, 0.05 in December 2012, and now 0.09 ng /ml in February 2013. So now, the radio-oncologist is going to measure the PSA every two months to measure the doubling time and the matter is not if I am going to have radiotherapy but when.
I have no ED neither incontinence, no even a tiny bit. I get tired easily, no endurance whatsoever, but I feel I am a lucky one ,if I can say so. I asked myself the question : Why me?...and the answer came right like a true revelation : Why not me? So here I am, travelling and living my life to the fullest as much as I can until my PSA gets taken again in 2 months...Have a nice journey everybody ! Life is great, life is short!
It has been since October 2009 that I had the robotic prostatectomy. My PSA level began to rise slowly (sensitive testing) in june 2012 at 0.05 . My PSA is now 0.15 and I am schedule to start salvage radiation therapy in the next month. Otherwise, my health is perfect and I have no symptoms: no erection problems, no urinary problems.

30 months following the surgery with the Da Vinci , the PSA started to be detectable again from .05 until it reached .13 and the oncologist decided to go for SRT. So, I had 33 treatments in May 2014 and one month after the RT, the PSA was back to 0.00!!! And never rose again since.I hope it will never raise again. I wish you all good news like mine. Life is not easy, it is not fair, but it is worth living to the fullest and sickness is part of the challenge.
Hi, I saw my oncologist 4 months ago and see him now every 6 months. Since the SR , my PSA has been 0 and the oncologist says I can consider myself healed, that he does not expect any resurgence, but he will feel safe when it will be 10 years since the Dx.
Since then, I have read books on overdx and overtx of PC. I would have make the same choices because my case is my case. I am well and alive without a prostate, living well also the ED that came with the SR. Life is short, enjoy fully all that you have now...because it can always be worse...always!
Hi, time for a quick update.
The PSA this year is 0! Good news so far. We are very happy with the treatments Richard received (radical prostatectomy with the Da Vinci robot followed 3 years later by the Salvage Radiotherapy)
Cialis on a daily basis was started this year. Enjoy life to the fullest while things are going well!
Be thankful for what is left. The journey begins!
