John N lives in Maryland, USA. He was 54 when he was diagnosed in April, 2012. His initial PSA was 5.80 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 6, and he was staged Unknown. His initial treatment choice was Surgery (Robotic Laparoscopic Prostatectomy) and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2019 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

Two weeks post surgery. I may be one of the lucky ones. Very little if any incontinence. It is funny, it sometimes feels like I am leaking but when I check down below, the pad shows no signs. I have a large supply of Depends (a friend who had surgery gave me all his unused ones plus the ones we bought) so I still wear them to bed at night. No signs of leakage and I typically sleep through the night. During the day, I get up and urinate often however. Maybe I'm just paranoid.

I've had erections since surgery. I am currently taking 1/2 Cialis twice a week. Not sure what will happen once I stop those. I am supposed to go back for post surgery PSA test in early December.

All in all, the operation and the first two weeks have been better than I could have hoped for.

UPDATED

October 2013

After 1 year I consider myself very fortunate. I told my doc she was a great plumber and electrician!

Everything works as it should. No leakage. Erections just like before surgery without the need for Cialis or Viagra.

I was pretty diligent with the Kegel exercises prior to surgery, maybe that helped.

Good luck to everyone visiting this site. It was a great resource to me.

UPDATED

July 2014

PSA still undetectable. Plumbing is good, no leaks. Electricity is good, no short circuits (ED)

UPDATED

September 2015

I continue to have excellent results. PSA undetectable, no ED issues and virtually no leaking issues. On a rare occasion I will grab something heavy or pull hard on a sailboat line and may have an almost imperceptible leak but I haven't worn pads since about 3 months post-op. I continue to do my Kegels regularly and periodically will start to urinate and then make myself stop and start mid stream to "practice" and continue to identify the right muscles.

I tell anyone who will listen that I was fortunate to find a doc who was a great plumber and electrician!

Good luck to all!

UPDATED

January 2017

Things still good here. Turning 60 this year. Still no adverse affects from the cancer or surgery.

Happy New Year everyone.

UPDATED

April 2018

Still all good.
