BRONZE

Stephen Fletcher and Maureen live in U K. He was 54 when he was diagnosed on July 3, 2007. His initial PSA was 4.8 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was unknown but was probably 6 or less - he was not told and although he does not know his staging either, he would have been staged T1c. His choice of treatment was Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy. Here is his story:

THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2011 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

I visited my G P because I have two half brothers who have prostate cancer. One is recovering well: one is terminally ill.

I knew the odds were stacked against me because of this so bit the bullet so to speak My G P did a rectal examination and PSA. She could not feel anything untoward on examination but picked up that my PSA had risen more than she would have expected in two years since I last went.

I was sent to the Urology Department of the local hospital where I was given a biopsy and twelve days later went for my results where i was told I had prostate cancer. I was assured it was a pussy cat at a very early stage only picked up by microscope and that my best course of action was to have the prostate removed.

I had Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy on 21st August and am now on my way to recovery.

UPDATED

December 2008

I was seen at the hospital by the urologist in June 2008. They were so pleased with my progress they do not want to see me again unless I have any concerns.

I have my PSA checked every 6 months; the hospital will phone my results through if any problems I have an open appointment and will be seen asap.

I have slight incontinence problems (urgency at needing the toilet and occasional dribbling of urine).

My Erections are getting better with the help of drugs.

UPDATED

March 2010
