PLATINUM

Roy Bradbrooke doesn't say where he lives with Susan but it seems that it is the USA. He was 65 when he was diagnosed in 1994. His initial PSA was 6.80 ng/ml and his Gleason Score was 3+4= 7. He was staged T2b and chose Cryotherapy for his treatment. Here is his story:

THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2011 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

Had Cryo in early 1994. PSA after cryo undetectable.

1994 to 2000, had very slow rise in PSA. Consulted Dr.Snuffy Myers in 2000 when PSA got to 2.80 ng/ml. Was put on meds - Dostinex and Evista and Proscar, plus low fat diet and antioxidents and PSA down to 0.60 ng/ml. Very slow rise in PSA over next few years but not over 1.0 ng/ml until 2005.

Now on Avodart in place of Proscar and PSA 0.80 ng/ml. Testosterone being monitored as well as DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) . DHT now below detectable level an last couple of tests. Recent addition of VitaminD3(5000IU,s) since check of VitD levels indicated to low in blood tests.Going up to 10,000IU's and monthly check of both 25- VitD and 1-25 VitD.

In my opinion, with the help of Dr.Snuffy Myers I (we) won the PCa battle or at least went into remission based upon my stats that now indicate PSAs in the very low level of 0.34ng/dl. Some might not think that very low but, since I had only partial ablation of my prostate when I had Cryo in 1994, I (and Snuffy ) feel this is a good indication of cancer control.

Just to keep things that way I am on several meds (Dostinex and Evista) plus a host of dietary supplements. The meds are growth factor inhibitors and the supplements are all the common ones used by most PCers. Recently added high dose Cholecalciferol(VITD3) - 2000IU,s and Pomegranate (not the juice) capsules -both obtained from Life Extension. By the way, you will be interested to know that Snuffy is conducting randomised trials of Vitamin D. I have quarterly blood tests to check my vitamin D levels.I also have quarterly blood tests of my DHT (dihydrotestosterone) since I am on Avodart. Presently my DHT is undetectable

That about wraps it up regarding PCa.

Roy has not responded to e-mail reminders for an update, but he still posts regularly to Forums on the Internet and clearly deserves his Platinum status for his 15 year survival.
