Maurice
ChefMossimoJ lives in Georgia, USA. He was 40 when he was diagnosed in January,
2010. His initial PSA was 5.0 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 3+3=6 and he was staged
T1c. His choice of treatment was Radical prostatectomy. Here is his story.
A
the ripe age of 40 and a month before my 41st birthday, I was given the disturbing
news that I had to make a decision on this diagnosis. My father lost his battle
with this disease at the age of 63. This was over 15 years ago. Not much was done
then as compared to now.
Along with my four brothers, we made it an annual
thing to have the exam done. In the summer of 2009, I was told that my prostate
was enlarged. This caused a scare but medication was administered and I thought
all was well. November 2009 brought on a total obstruction of my bladder. Catheter
stayed in for 3 months.
I was married for seven years by April 2010. My
wife told me that she would be there no matter what the decision was.
I
had the surgery August 5th 2010. My relationship spiralled afterwards. She left
a month after the surgery. She never was a nurturing person, so I took it stride
and am now going it solo with this new life. Uncertainty abounds me. I am still
in the healing stage. My PSAs are still not what they are suppose to be, but I
strive for positive thoughts and procedures.
