YANA - YOU ARE NOT ALONE NOW

PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT SITE

BRONZE

David Baker lives in Florida, USA. He was 51 when he was diagnosed in May, 2007. His initial PSA was 4.5 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 8 and although he does not state it, it seems likely he was staged T1c. His choice of treatment was robotic laparoscopic surgery. Here is his story.

I am now 53 years old. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer May 2007. PSA was 4.0. Biopsy revealed Gleeson 8. I had prostate surgically removed in August 2007.

Twelve weeks after surgery PSA was 1.2 and rising. I began a 3 month Lupron regimen in December 2007. That initially knocked PSA to 0.04.

After 9 months PSA was again rising. I began 1 month Lupron shot and daily 50g Casodex in September 2008. PSA went to 0.61. 2 months later PSA was 0.67.

May 8 2009 PSA has increased 10 fold to 6.0; May 19 my PSA is 9.0. My doctor says drugs are not keeping down my testosterone. I was given a shot of Zoladex May 24.

UPDATED

November 2010

I got on the Provenge trial in Dec 2009. That ended in Mar 2010. I have been getting Cat scans every 3 months to monitor lymph nodes. Every 3 months scan showed nodes getting larger and more nodes being affected. After trial in April 2010 there was a reduction in lymph node involvement (Good news) but bone scan showed first spot on my spine (bad news).

Treatment moved from primary hormone treatment to secondary (Ketoconazole). Move happened as PSA got to 140 - 150 in April 2010. The Keto knocked down PSA and testosterone very quickly with PSA getting as low as 8 in June. Slowly, inexorably, PSA is rising again doubling over the last 2 months to 24.

I am scheduled for bone scan and Cat next week
