Chris Butteriss and Marie live in Victoria, Australia. He was 57 when he was diagnosed March 2000. His initial PSA was 19.8 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 2+3=5 and he says he was staged T3c, but that looks like a pathological staging and it sems likely that his clinical staging was T1c . His choice of treatment was RP (Radical Prostatectomy). Here is his story.

Biopsy March 2000 - 6 samples, 3 positive. CAT scan, Bone Scan & chest/back X-rays - all clear.

April 2000 - RP (Radical Prostatectomy). PC had leaked to seminal vesicles, lymph nodes were clear.

Sept 2000-PSA 0.4

Aug 2001 - PSA 2.3

Sept 2001 - Zoladex 10.8mg implant, daily Casodex 50mg.

Oct 2001 - PSA undetectable.

Nov 2001 - PSA undetectable. Zoladex 10.8mg implant.

Dec 2001 - Commenced 32 EBRT treatments, ceased Casodex. PSA remained undetectable until Oct 2004 - PSA 1.1

April 2005 - PSA 2.1. Bone and CT scans all clear.

Jan 2008 - PSA 5.1. Bone and CT scans all clear.

Jan 2009 - PSA 8.3. Bone and CT scans all clear.

Feb 2009 - Type 2 diabetes diagnosed.

Dec 2009 - PSA 27.4. Bone and CT scans all clear. MRI all clear.

April 2010 - PSA 43.9

Next appointment with Oncologist August 2010, Will commence Casodex and Zoladex.

My PSA jumped from 43.9 in April to 166.0 this month. No pain or symptoms. Commenced Zoladex and Casodex last week. I will update after first PSA test.

September 2010

 

 

First PSA test 4 weeks after commencing Hormone Therapy was 1.2. This is a spectactular result (Oncologist's words). In addition side effects are minimal, some night sweats which are only mild, and a dry mouth during the night.
