BRONZE

Barry Schneider and Laynie live in Massachusetts, USA. He was 60 when he was diagnosed on November 24, 2008. His initial PSA was 5.0 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 6 and he was staged T1c. His choice of treatment was IGRT (Image Guided Radiation Therapy). Here is his story.

For the last two years when I would have my physical my PSA reading would vary from 3.2-5.9. It was like a yo-yo. I take medicine to dissolve kidney stones so sometimes it was thought that I had a mild kidney stone infection which would throw off my PSA score!

Finally my urologist and I decided to do a biopsy. I must tell you that when the doctor tells you that you have prostate cancer, you slump in your seat telling yourself the end of your life is near. The is a common feeling that we all get with this drastic news! Don't go crazy! Use the web to do research about different techniques. I choose a new technique for beam radiation with a new targeting method with accuracy of 1-2 millimetres of spilling beyond the target producing little if any bi-lateral damage. I have found that the side affects during the treatment are minimal ( frequent bowel movements and urination). Both of theses side effects can be easily control by modifying diet and simple medications.

I have two more weeks left of treatments and I am done. My doctors expect that I should totally eliminate the cancer, based on the fact that we found it early and it is a small amount. I would be happy to help, recommend, advise anyone looking for guidance or counselling in this area.

Barry is now 62 and his current PSA is 1.52. He says: I highly recommend IGRT-A targeted radiation treatment! Treatment will not change any routines that you have, whether it is work related or athletic related. It is just plain fantastic!!!
